My little pianists

I think music in the home is so important! I didn't have a piano growing up, nor did I ever learn how to play an instrument. Something I wish I had learned how to do. For the last few years I have had my eye out for a used piano. When we first moved here we went to an estate sale, where I found a gorgeous, black, upright piano for only a few hundred dollars. I didn't think much of it at the time, naively assuming that I'd find another one when I wanted to. Well, I didn't. It took four years, but luckily, I found the above piano for a great deal at an estate sale in December. Matthew plays, quite well actually, and it has been beyond wonderful to have him sit with the kids at the piano and play hymns and children's songs. The kids love to play around on the keys and make "music." I am so happy to finally have a piano in our home and to be able to give our kids the opportunity to cultivate a talent that I didn't. Hopefully they will still think the piano is cool when they are sixteen. Matthew tells me not to count on it!

hmm Preston and Matthew must be related. My next door neighbor played and I used to sit in the backyard by the fence and listen to her practice and I would sit on their couch and watch in awe as she played. The neighbor across the street had a daughter who was a piano prodigy and I'd sit on the sidewalk by their house and listen to her play. It was amazing! Preston doesn't seem to think so, but I'm freakin jealous that he can play!

You never know. I actually started to like it around 14. Congrats on the piano. It makes a great 15 minute distraction (at least at my house it does) while I'm getting dinner in the oven. Yea for music!

Yeah sorry they probably wont if you force them to play... unless you get a kid like Tanner Weigel, so you never know!

I am 100% green with envy. I want a piano so badly! I hated lessons growing up, most of the time, and never practiced when I didn't have to. But now I miss it, and feel really guilty every time a pianist is needed at church and I can't step up to play. So maybe encouraging your kids to play, but not forcing them is the way to go.
