Asleep on the job!

We have recently done away with naps for the three older Carpenter children. I did this in an attempt to get the kids in bed and asleep before 10 pm. Especially Parker, who because of his heightened gag reflex, is unable to be left crying in his crib to fall asleep on his own. When we have attempted that technique in the past, it has ended with him throwing up everywhere, and Matthew and I even more frustrated than before. So, that has meant that he is out and about in the family room, in our room, in the office area, and sneaking into Aidan and Emma's rooms reeking all kinds of bedtime havoc on everyone. Aidan and Emma have also had a very hard time staying in bed once put down. So, for the last few weeks, I have cut nap time out of our routine. It has made the hours of 3-5pm almost unbearable, but it has also resulted in our kids being in bed and asleep by 7:30 or 8:00 o'clock every night of the week. It unfortunately, has also resulted in Parker falling asleep at the dinner table on more than one occasion. But, I have learned to pick my battles, and choose the lesser of the two evils. And, I wind up actually getting some sleep of my own, time with my husband, and some laundry done here and there. All and all, it's been worth it...most days :)

Monica--it was my version of Chinese chicken wings, but with chicken breast not wings. And rice and green beans :)

Yikes! That's a scary proposition! Cambria only takes a nap every other day and those nights bedtime is usually at 6:45 because I can't take any more. I hope it works out well, and that the kids get used to the new routine so that you don't pull out your hair from 3-5!

I was also going to comment that you must be super mom to get a three course meal on the table while dealing with three overtired kids. Nights like those we have cereal!

I feel for ya. Paige is in the process of getting rid of naps and Bryce is transitioning from 2 naps to 1. Both just really mess up my routine (and mess with my sanity). Good Luck!!!
