Starting Early

Aidan's latest phase of irritating behavior has been spitting. Today, while he was eating his breakfast, he thought it would be fun to spit his milk all over the floor. I asked him to stop and told him that if he did it again that he would go to time out. He promptly made a face at me and said, "whatever." Matthew, who was behind him as he said this, starting laughing under his breathe. I was dumbfounded. "Excuse me?" I said, and he replied, again, with the same face of defiance, "whatever, Mommy." If this is how he is at 2 years and 5 months old, we are in for trouble when he turns 16! He does however, have his sweet moments. We had a painter come over to give us an estimate on repainting our house, and before he left Aidan ran up to him and said "hug first" and gave him a big hug as he was leaving. It was pretty adorable. Of course, immediately afterwards he ran as fast as could from the living room to the family room and body slammed Emma...he's a handful, alright, that son of mine!

I've decided to change the layout on my blog and I still need to fix and tweek a few things, so please bear with me until it's completed.

Happenings

We recently decided it was time to upgrade to a van. Our Corolla was big enough for us all, but everything was a tight fight and family vacations with that car were out of the question. So, we looked around and found a great deal on a Honda Odyssey. I think Aidan has been the most excited about the purchase. He is constantly asking if we need to go anywhere so he can ride in the van.

Emma officially hates spagetti-o's. I was feeding Aidan some spagetti-o's this week for lunch and decided to grind some up for Emma. She usually loves whatever I give her, and I didn't think it would be any different this time. I was wrong. This is her eating spagetti-o's.

We have also seen some progress in our garden. The squash, radishes, onions, and peas have started to grow, and Matthew is very excited about it!

Hipity, Hopity, the Easter Bunny came to our house!

Three weeks ago, when it was actually Easter, I tried posting this message and by the time I finished, and got all the pictures up, my computer crashed. Needless to say I was too frustrated to start over then--so it's three weeks late. Sorry. Aidan was a little underwhelmed with Easter. After finding his basket and the eggs that were left for him, he seemed rather disappointed that it was all over so quickly. He perked up however, when we told him he could eat his candy for breakfast. Not my brightest idea. I was thinking "it'll be fun, for a special treat." Now he asks for candy everyday for breakfast, even after three weeks he hasn't forgotten.




In other Carpenter news, Matthew has built his garden and planted his vegetables. We are attempting to grow tomatoes, snap beans, squash, radishes (yuck), onions, and carrots. We grew tomatoes last year and they were a success, so hopefully this year we'll be as lucky.

I want to say congratulations to my sister-in-law Amanda, whose daughter Charlotte was born on April 4th. She is beautiful and we are so happy to have her as a part of our family! This is baby number two for the happy parents. I forgot to bring my camera to the hospital to take pictures so sorry there are no photos of baby Charlotte for all to see. But she really is a gorgeous baby.

What...Snow in Tucson?

Yep, it's true. It snows here. Not necessarily in town, but the mountains do get that powdery white stuff. We went up to Mount Lemmon yesterday for some cold, wet, snowy family fun. It was the first time that Aidan (and Emma) had ever seen or been in snow. Emma as usually didn't know what was going on, but Aidan had so much fun. And Matthew and I had a blast with the kids. It was reminiscent of our college days when we would get into milk and cupcake fights. There were a few white washes on both sides. Here are the pictures of our Saint Patrick's Day outing.

March 1st already.... Where does the time go?

It's been almost two weeks since my last posting. Hard to believe. We are all doing much better, no sickness at the moment. In my last posting I mentioned that Matthew and I had tickets to the theater, and with everyone being sick we weren't sure we'd make it...well, we did! We went to see The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, at the Tucson Music Hall. It's part of their Broadway in Tucson series. It was a wonderful show, we spent most of the time laughing hysterically, but as always there was unnecessary innuendo, that didn't enhance or add the overall experience. That aside, the show was great. The actors were phenomenal, the singing was outstanding, and the play itself was witty and well written. Before the show we ate at The Old Pueblo Grille, an american/southwestern restaurant that is supposed to be top rated, but I was rather disappointed by the experience and especially the food. Luckily we had a gift card that Matthew got from work for one of the many times he had to work extra on a project. Overall, though, it was a great evening out with my husband and we had a great time.

Yesterday, Matthew actually got his Friday off from work (Matthew works 9 hour days so that every other Friday he gets to take off. It's a sweet deal when it actually works out. Most of the time he has to work to get his projects finished on time.) We were watching out niece Cambria for the day, and then when Melanie came to pick her up after work, Matthew took her, and the kids to the zoo while I got a nap! Aidan LOVES the zoo, it is by far his favorite place to be. He is very into animals and always has such a good time when we take him. We bought a family pass to the Tucson Zoo, since we were going so much. As you can see by the picture, Aidan is always trying to get into where the animals actually are. He is so fearless, when-
ever he gets close to the animals he just wants to get closer. Like with this peacock that walked right in front of him.

One last update--Emma is starting to crawl now. She does her commando style crawling by using her arms and dragging her body where she wants to go. It is quite amusing!

Still sick...

I haven't blogged in a while because we have all been sick on and off for the last few weeks, and it's been just plain exhausting! Aidan had a horrible ear infection and was running a fever for a few days. He is back on antibiotics and doing better. Emma just got the flu we all had a few weeks ago, and is not a happy little camper. I can't shake this cold I've had for weeks, and Matthew, well, he's just plain tired from having to take care of all of us all the time.

Hopefully we will be feeling better tomorrow night, because Matthew and I have tickets to theater. It's an extension of Valentine's Day for us, so I hope we feel well enough to enjoy it. I will post all about the show later.
